High-Impact Geological Exploration Projects to Headline the Core Shack at proEXPLO 2026
This edition will bring together copper and gold exploration projects from Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Peru, representing diverse opportunities for discovery and development across the region.
Lima, February 5, 2026.- The 15th International Congress of Prospectors and Explorers (proEXPLO 2026) will once again position itself as Latin America’s leading meeting point for mineral exploration, thanks to the presence of world-class exploration and development projects to be showcased at its flagship Core Shack, a technical space designed for in-depth geological analysis and specialized knowledge exchange.
High Geological Value
Led by leading mining companies, these projects will provide participants with technical information on resources, development potential, and exploration progress, fostering knowledge exchange among professionals, investors, and specialists.
The projects featured in this space come from Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Peru and represent different mineralization styles, development scales, and geological settings, but they share a common denominator: high resource potential, significant exploration advances, and the backing of top-tier mining companies. These projects include:
El Limón Mine, owned by Equinox Gold, is a combined underground and open-pit operation located in northwestern Nicaragua, approximately 100 kilometers from Managua. With a processing plant capacity of 500,000 tons per year, it uses cyanide leaching to produce doré, achieving gold recoveries of 94% to 95%.
From Chile, Antofagasta Minerals will present the Cachorro-Encierro projects, copper deposits with significant resources that expand the company’s exploration footprint in northern Chile. Cachorro is a manto-type deposit with estimated resources of 255 million tons at 1.26% Cu, while Encierro is a Cu-Au-Mo porphyry with 522 million tons at 0.65% Cu, offering new discovery opportunities within the Andean belt. In addition, Capstone Copper will showcase the Mantoverde Project, located in Chile’s Atacama Region. This high-impact initiative, commissioned in late 2024, processes sulfides, extending the mine life to more than 20 years and increasing production to approximately 120,000 tons of copper per year.
The Alpala Project of SolGold in Ecuador is located in Imbabura Province and is one of South America’s highest-potential copper-gold systems. According to prefeasibility study results, the project is expected to achieve average annual production of 123,000 tons of copper, 277,000 ounces of gold, and 794,000 ounces of silver over its initial 28-year mine life.
In northern Peru, La Granja, now operated by First Quantum Minerals following the acquisition of a majority stake and leadership of its development, stands out as one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper resources, with an inferred resource exceeding 4.32 billion tons at 0.51% copper and significant expansion potential.
Also owned by First Quantum Minerals, the Taca Taca Project in Argentina is a copper-gold-molybdenum deposit located in Salta Province, suitable for large-scale open-pit mining. It has a projected mine life of 32 years, with annual production of 250,000 tons of copper, 125,000 ounces of gold, and 3,500 tons of molybdenum.
Meanwhile, the Vicuña Project, managed by Vicuña Corp (a 50/50 joint venture between Lundin Mining and BHP), integrates the world-class Filo del Sol and Josemaría deposits along the Argentina-Chile border in San Juan Province, with measured and indicated resources that exceed 12 million tons of copper. Production is expected to begin in 2030.
The proEXPLO 2026 Core Shack is thus positioned as a premier technical showcase for highlighting the quality and geological potential of advanced exploration and development projects, further consolidating proEXPLO as a key platform for evaluating investment opportunities, promoting geological innovation, and fostering collaboration in mineral exploration across Latin America.
