proEXPLO 2026 to Offer Four Specialized Courses with International Experts Ahead of the Congress
The training sessions will take place from May 1 to 3 in Lima and will provide specialized training in geological mapping, economic geology, porphyry systems, and skarn-type deposits.
Lima, March 12, 2026. As part of the 15th International Congress of Prospectors and Explorers, proEXPLO 2026, a series of four in-person short courses will be held ahead of the event, bringing together leading international experts to share key knowledge in mining exploration.
The courses are aimed at students, early-career geologists, and professionals from the mining industry, and will address fundamental topics such as geological mapping applied to exploration, economic geology, copper-gold porphyry systems, and skarn-type deposits.
On May 1 and 2, exploration geologist Andreas Dietrich will deliver the course “Geological Mapping in Mineral Exploration,” focused on the practical aspects of geological mapping in exploration programs. Through lectures and exercises, participants will go through the different stages of a geological mapping project, from preparation and fieldwork to the preparation of maps, GIS projects, and technical reports, using examples from epithermal systems, porphyries, and mineralized breccias.
On May 2, experts William X. Chávez Jr. and Roberto Perez Xavier will present the course “The Science of Economic Geology,” which will address the occurrence and genesis of metallic ore deposits, as well as exploration techniques and the economic criteria applied to the development of mineral resources. The course will also analyze the challenges of exploration in the context of the transition toward more sustainable economies and the skills that future geologists will need.
Additional Courses
On May 3, international consultant Alan J. Wilson will teach the course “Diversity in Alkaline and High-K Calc-Alkaline Copper-Gold Porphyry Deposits.” The workshop will present the variety of alteration and mineralization styles in these systems through international case studies, strengthening geological interpretation through the analysis of drill core and outcrop photographs.
That same day, Professor Zhaoshan Chang from the Colorado School of Mines will offer the course “Skarns and Related Deposits,” which will review the characteristics, geological controls, and exploration methods of these deposits, including their relationships with porphyry, CRD, and epithermal systems.
The training sessions will take place from May 1 to 3, 2026, from 09:00 to 17:00, at the IIMP headquarters (Calle Los Canarios 155-157, Urb. San César II Etapa, La Molina). To participate, please complete the registration form at the following link: https://bit.ly/3PrNED5.
