Five exploration projects for US$ 87 million are green-lighted to start drilling
Seven initiatives have completed the prior consultation process, while eight have obtained their Environmental Management Instruments (IGA). These 15 projects total an investment of more than US$99 million.
Lima, November 25, 2024. The development of exploration projects continues to progress. Between September and October, the Tambomayo (Buenaventura) and Pucajirca (Minera Peñoles) projects obtained the Exploration Initiation Authorization (AIE) and joined three other initiatives that have the green light to start drilling.
The list is completed by Willay (Vale Exploration Peru), Quelcaya (Macusani Yellowcake) and Palca (Compañía Minera Poderosa). Together, these projects require an investment of US$ 87.8 million, according to the latest Statistical Bulletin of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM).
In this regard, Walter Tejada, president of proEXPLO 2025, described as positive the fact that the MINEM continues with the approval of permits that will allow exploration processes to begin, a key stage for the development of new projects.
Precisely, according to MINEM data, between September and October, the Romina 2 (Compañía Minera Chungar) and Qoya Chullo (BHP World Exploration Inc. Sucursal del Perú) projects were also granted their Environmental Management Instruments (IGA). In other words, in just one month the number of projects with IGA increased from 6 to 8. The 8 projects with IGA total US$ 63.4 million of investment.
Tejada indicated that the IGA is the main input to advance towards the finalization of permits to start exploration. Another noteworthy fact is that seven initiatives, for US$36.4 million, have completed the prior consultation process.
