Walter Tejada - President of proEXPLO 2025

Executive with extensive managerial, technical, and operational experience, including leadership roles in the mining exploration industry in Peru, the Andes, and Canada.

With over 28 years of professional experience, he has a proven management track record that includes leadership in portfolio renewal and growth initiatives, technical evaluation, risk management, and the design and implementation of exploration strategies in highly technical, social, and regulatory complex environments.

Work Experience

He has been operations manager for the Americas at BHP Exploration since 2024. Prior to that, he was exploration manager for Peru for BHP until 2023, global asset manager for Teck Resources Limited until 2019, and country manager for Teck Resources until 2015.

Education

Walter holds a professional degree in Geological Engineering from Universidad Nacional de San Marcos, Lima, Peru, and a Master of Science in Mineral Exploration from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He is a graduate of Teck Resources’ Emerging Leaders Program and holds accreditations in Strategic Thinking for Executives from Cambridge Judge Business School and in Leadership and Influence from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Regina Baumgartner - Responsible for Keynote Speeches at proEXPLO 2025

Geoscientist with extensive experience in greenfield exploration, advanced projects, brownfields, and operations in Peru, Chile, Canada, the Philippines, and other parts of the world.

Passionate about geoscience and geometallurgy, she focuses on integrating these disciplines into projects and operations with a keen focus on circular economy principles to optimize essential metals and critical elements crucial for the energy transition.

Work Experience

Since 2021, she has been the section leader of the Applied Mineralogy and Geoscience group at Teck Metals in Trail, BC, Canada. Prior to that, she was Principal Geoscientist for Teck Resources in Chile until 2021 and for Gold Fields Peru until 2017.

Education

Regina holds a Ph.D. and a master's degree from the University of Geneva. She is also an adjunct professor in the Geological Engineering program at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru (PUCP) in Lima. Regina is a graduate of Teck Resources’ Leaders for Excellence program and holds accreditation in leadership and influence management from the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM).

Lorena Carrillo - Responsible for Environment, Governance, and Society at proEXPLO 2025

Social communicator with a master’s degree in International Cooperation for Development and Volunteering from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. She is a specialist in social management with work experience in private companies, international development organizations, and humanitarian aid in Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, and Central America.

She has worked as sustainability manager for Bocas del Toro Energía, promoter of the Bocas del Toro Hydropower Plant Project in Panama; sustainability manager for Empresa de Generación Huallaga, promoter of the Chaglla Hydropower Plan Project in Peru; founder of Gea Sostenibilidad, a consulting firm providing social management services to the mining, energy, and hydrocarbon sectors; and was the global manager of social management for Nexa Resources for its mining operations in Peru and Brazil.

Prior to that, she was community relations manager for Mines Advisory Group in South Sudan, Colombia, and Sri Lanka. She has also worked at the UN Volunteers Headquarters in Germany and at UNICEF in Sudan. Early in her career, she worked in the Community Relations Department of Compañía Minera Antamina in the Ancash region and at the Universidad Privada del Norte in Trujillo.

She currently works for BHP as Principal Lead Corporate Affairs and Social Subject Matter Expert for BHP's investments in Peru.

Lorena enjoys adventure sports and participating in traditional cultural activities. She is committed to diversity and inclusion.

Adan Pino Zeballos - Responsible for the Technical Program of proEXPLO 2025

An executive with extensive project management experience in the exploration of porphyry and epithermal deposits at various scales and advanced projects in the Andean region, both in Peru and Ecuador.

An exploration geologist with over 20 years of experience, enthusiastic about geology, the Andes, and the discovery of new mineral resources that contribute to the economic growth of the country and the sustainable development of local communities.

Work Experience

Since 2022, he has been working as exploration manager in Peru and Ecuador for Barrick Gold Corp. Prior to that, he was interim discovery manager - Ecuador for Anglo American until 2022, was technical leader - Ecuador for Anglo American until 2020, and generative leader - Peru until 2018.

Education

Adán holds a degree in Geological Engineering from the Universidad Nacional Jorge Basadre Grohmann in Tacna, Peru. He also completed the Executive Management Program at the Adolfo Ibáñez University in Santiago, Chile, and the Accelerators Program at the Anglo-American Leadership Academy. Finally, in 2004 he was awarded the "Jorge Injoque" prize for the best geology thesis by the Geological Society of Peru.

Wolfgang Morche - Responsible for the Technical Program of proEXPLO 2025

Geologist and geochemist with extensive experience in the design and management of exploration projects at both regional and district scales. Expert in economic geology with a focus on volcanology and igneous rocks. Technical-scientific expertise in geological mapping, geochemical exploration, geological synthesis, and regional metallogeny. Specialization in mapping and interpreting volcanic systems and sequences. Studies on mining tailings and their potential environmental impact, as well as geochemical and mineralogical analyses.

Work Experience

  • He has forty years of professional experience as a geologist/mineralogist, with 33 years spent collaborating with over 25 mining companies in various Latin American countries, based in Peru.
  • Since 2009, he has been working as a consulting geologist with a focus on regional exploration and prospects—specifically targeting epithermal gold/silver deposits in volcanic environments, porphyry deposits, and IOCG/VHMS-type deposits.
  • From 2005 to 2009, he worked for Newmont as a senior exploration geologist in Peru and Argentina.
  • From 2000 to 2005, he worked as a consulting geologist and lecturer at UNMSM (National University of San Marcos) for post-graduate courses in igneous rock petrology and volcanology.
  • From 1997 to 2000, he worked as a senior exploration geologist for NORTH Peru.
  • From 1990 to 1997, he was technical advisor to the General Directorate of Geology at INGEMMET (Laboratories, National Geological Map, Volcanology).

Adriana Aurazo - In charge of Inclusion and Diversity at proEXPLO 2025

Adriana Aurazo is the CEO and founding partner of the consulting firm RamaClara, a full member of the Environmental Dispute Resolution Tribunal of the Ministry of the Environment, academic leader of the Mining Sustainability Program at UTEC, and secretary-general and leader of the Specialized Groups for Technical Works (GreaTTs) at Women in Mining Peru (WIM Peru).

She has served as Director General of Mining Environmental Affairs and Director of Regulatory Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Mines. She also founded and developed the environmental law boutiques RamaClara and EcoFirma and headed the environmental departments of prestigious law firms in the country.

For the last 15 years, Adriana Aurazo has been ranked among the most prestigious lawyers in the country by legal market research publications such as "Chambers & Partners," "Global Competition Review," "Who's Who Legal," "Latin Lawyers," and "Who's Who Continental," whose most recent publications recognize her as a recommended lawyer in the field of the environment and climate change.

Work Experience

With over 20 years of experience, she has advised companies, multilateral organizations, and the Peruvian government on issues related to environmental law, mining and energy law, sustainability, ESG criteria, circular economy, climate change, diversity and inclusion, and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Lisard Torró - In charge of Academic Affairs and Education at proEXPLO 2025

Lisard Torró conducts research in geology and geochemistry of mineral deposits, especially those formed in supra-subduction zones. Recently, Lisard has been studying the mineralogical expression, distribution patterns, and enrichment mechanisms of so-called high- tech elements in hydrothermal and residual deposits. He has active projects in the Central Andes and the Caribbean.

Lisard has been a Fellow Member of the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) since 2020 and a regular member of the Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits (SGA) since 2009. Lisard has been an associate editor of the journal Mineralium Deposita since January 2024 and an academic advisor to the SGA student chapter in Peru since 2019.

Work Experience

Lisard Torró is an associate professor and researcher in the Geological Engineering Program at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). Prior to that, he was a visiting professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).

Education

Lisard holds a bachelor's degree in Geology (2009, University of Barcelona) and a Mining Engineering degree (2011, Polytechnic University of Catalonia). He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Barcelona in 2017.

Miroslav Kalinaj - Responsible for the Project Fair and Technological Exhibition of proEXPLO 2025

Exploration geologist specializing in mineralogy and geochemistry, with over 20 years of management experience in various mining companies in Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, and Mexico.

He has dedicated five years to a scientific career in thermodynamic modeling of hydrothermal systems and has accumulated over 30 years of experience in greenfield exploration across Europe and the Americas, encompassing a wide variety of deposits. This expertise has contributed to several new discoveries and has added value to existing mining operations through brownfield exploration.

Work Experience

He has been corporate exploration manager for Minsur S.A. since 2012. Prior to that, he was exploration manager for Peru and Mexico at Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. since 2009; vice president of exploration for Rio Cristal Zinc Inc. since 2007; exploration manager for Peru at Hochschild Mining since 2004; and senior geologist for Anglo American Plc. since 1998.

Education

Miroslav graduated from Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia in 1987, and earned a Master of Science in Geochemistry and Mineralogy from the same university in 1989. He started his scientific career at the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Slovak Geological Survey, specializing in thermodynamic modeling of epithermal deposits. He is a member of SGA, SEG, IIMP, AIG, SGP, and the Planetary Division of AAS.

Jonas Mota - Responsible for On the Road to proEXPLO, pre-Congress courses and field visits

Jonas is a Brazilian geologist who has been based in Peru for the past seven years. He is currently working as exploration manager at Rio Tinto. He joined the company in 2020 as senior geoscientist II and was promoted to his current role in 2021.

His educational background includes a master's degree and a Ph.D., with several publications on nickel sulfide deposits. While his professional focus has primarily been on these deposits, he also has experience in sedimentary zinc, VMS, CRD, skarn, and copper porphyries, with a good balance of work in cratons and modern orogens. During his six years of experience as an exploration manager, he has demonstrated the ability to lead efficient and collaborative teams.

Work Experience

He worked at Nexa between 2005 and 2019 and joined Rio Tinto in 2020.

Education

He graduated in Geology from the University of Sao Paulo in 2004, earned his master's degree from University of Brasilia in 2009, and completed his Ph.D. from the University of Brasilia in 2014, which included an internship at Cardiff University.

Carlos Diez Canseco - General Manager of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers

He holds a professional degree in Economics from Universidad del Pacífico, with postgraduate studies at the London School of Economics & Political Science. He has vast experience in the domestic and international mining and energy sectors.

He has served as main researcher at the Institute of Economic and Mining Studies (IDEM), general manager of the National Society of Mining, Petroleum, and Energy (SNMPE), and coordinator of PERCAN, a Canadian technical assistance project to the Government of Peru in the mining sector.

Since 2020, he has taken on the role of general manager at the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), an organization that has been bringing together professionals in the mining sector for 80 years.

He currently serves as a director of the following Non-Governmental Organizations:

  • H2 Perú, dedicated to promoting green hydrogen in Peru.
  • Agua Limpia, focused on promoting efficient water use for the benefit of underserved populations.
  • Amautas Mineros, a group of university students who promote mining knowledge in schools nationwide.
  • Asociación Cerro Juli, which promotes the fairgrounds of the same name and was the recent site of PERUMIN.
