proEXPLO 2025: Refresh your knowledge with courses on mineral exploration, geometallurgy, orogenic gold and geological mapping

The courses will be taught in Spanish and will have a duration of 8 hours each. Participants will receive a digital certificate.

Lima, January 27, 2025. The Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) announced the start of registration for the 6 technical courses that will be held as part of the 14th International Congress of Prospectors and Explorers (proEXPLO 2025).

The courses are aimed at geologists specialized in geochemistry, metallurgy, machine learning, and geologists who are at the beginning of their professional life.

The IIMP explained that the courses will be given in Spanish through simultaneous interpretation and will have a duration of 8 hours each. Participants will receive a digital certificate.

All courses will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the institutional headquarters of the IIMP, located at Calle Los Canarios 155-157 Urb. San César, II Etapa - La Molina

What will they be about?

The first course, “Distal footprints of carbonate-hosted hydrothermal deposits: theory and practical exploration tools”, given by Shaun Barker will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

The second course “Geochemistry applied to mineral exploration”, given by Federico Cernuschi, will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025. The third one called “Alteration from field data collection to machine learning target generation”, given by Anna Fonseca and Alejandro Verri will be held on Sunday May 4, 2025.

The three courses that will follow proEXPLO2025 will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025. The fourth course, “Beyond conventional geometallurgy: a broader view that considers the entire mining value chain, from exploration to remediation”, was presented by Regina Baumgartner. The fifth course entitled “Orogenic Gold: Geology, Genesis and Exploration”, given by Richard Goldfarb, and the sixth course “Geological Mapping in Mineral Exploration”, given by Andreas Dietrich.

Instructors

The courses will be taught by professionals and experts in the global mining sector invited by the IIMP such as Shaun Barker, director of the Mineral Deposit Research Unit of the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at Columbia University in Vancouver, Canada.

Federico Cernuschi, independent consultant, specialized in geology and geochemistry of magmatic-hydrothermal processes, focusing on exploration and development of porphyry-type deposits, with studies at UDELAR, Uruguay and Oregon State University.

Anna Fonseca, MSC, PGEO, holds an MSc in Structural Geology from the University of British Columbia (Canada) (1997) and a BSc from the University of Alaska Fairbanks (USA) (1993). She is a practicing member of the Association of Professional Geologists of Ontariosity.

Alejandro Verri, BEng, CPIC, civil engineer with experience in structural and geotechnical seismic engineering. Specializing in seismic hazard analysis and reliability-based seismic design for critical infrastructure, where he develops AI-based workflows for seismic spectral analysis, etc.

Regina Baumgartner, geoscientist with extensive experience in greenfield exploration, advanced projects, brownfield and operations in Peru, Chile, Canada, Philippines and other parts of the world. She holds a Ph.D. and a Master's degree from the University of Geneva.

Richard Goldfarb, B.S. in Geology from Bucknell University, M.S. in Hydrology from the University of Nevada - Mackay School of Mines, and Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Colorado. He has 36 years as a research geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey.

Andreas Dietrich, exploration geologist with more than 30 years of international experience in geological mapping for mineral exploration and related scientific research. He is a graduate of the Technical University of Clausthal, Germany, where he graduated with a thesis on an epithermal system in the Meseta de Los Frailes ignimbritic complex, Potosi, Bolivia.
