Lima, February 19, 2025. Engineer Miguel Cardozo, member of the Advisory Board of the International Congress of Prospectors and Explorers (proEXPLO 2025) and Past President of the event, pointed out that proEXPLO has quickly become the largest exploration event in Latin America.

What was the motivation for organizing the convention? “In a way, we geologists also needed to have a congress, just like the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), we needed to have a congress that highlights and focuses on the issues related to mineral exploration,” he said in an interview with IIMP.

Cardozo pointed out that another reason for launching proEXPLO was the importance of highlighting exploration not only as a professional activity, but also for its economic impact, its scientific advances with the use of technology, as well as its evolution in terms of investment and results.

“We have quickly become the most important mining exploration event in Latin America,” said Cardozo. He also stated that the most prominent experts in the latest trends in exploration were sought for the conferences.

He said that more than 2,000 people attended the last edition of proEXPLO, from at least 31 countries, including Canada, Chile, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia and the United States.

“proEXPLO's motto is ‘Discovering mineral resources for a better world’, which emphasizes the importance of exploration. The importance of discovering new resources to be able to further increase the countries' production. But also to be able to continue supplying the world with all the metals required for its development,” he told the IIMP.

Finally, Cardozo emphasized that geology professors and students are expected to attend the meeting in order to broaden their knowledge of mining exploration. “There are very important issues that are going to be addressed. For example, the application of technology and artificial intelligence in exploration,” he concluded.
